Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the skin analysis machine work?
The system is simple to use and only requires a laptop or desktop computer to install the user friendly CareType software suite onto. Small skin test strips are applied to the skin, removed and placed into the USB unit. Testing takes under 30 seconds and gives the user a detailed view of the actual skin sample as well as fully quantitative results for the test. The system uses the results to recommend products and treatments that have been customized by the user. All of the results are stored automatically in a simple database and can be emailed to clients or referenced upon their next visit or test.
2) What does the system actually test?
The system tests several parameters that are associated with overall skin wellness and health. The most popular tests in our suite include skin hydration, consistency, pore size and oil production, fine lines and wrinkles, and cosmetic analysis. Additionally, the software is fully upgradeable and new testing modules can be added easily as they are released.
3) How has it been validated?
The system's primary function is to track the improvement of an individual client's skin over time and recognize and treat potential skin conditions with the best skincare products and treatments. The unit has been tested side-by-side with industry standard devices such as the corneometer available at Courage-Khazaka. The system's best validation, however, comes from its users who are trained estheticians, dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, all of whom use the system to help explain, track, describe, inform, and recommend the proper skin care regimens and treatments for clients and customers.
4) Can it be customized for my business?
All of our CareType systems can be fully customized. Our customers enjoy the ability to recommend and display their own custom products or treatments and also are able to display images or advertised specials from their business within the program. The system is in use in a wide array of facilities ranging from large resorts, clinical research sites, and single owner and franchise MedSpa's. Visit our Facebook page to see how our customers are customizing their systems.
5) Do you have a dedicated version for clinical researchers?
In fact we do. Our first system originated from the clinical research industry and was tested by major Cosmetic Formulators and Personal Care companies. As such we have included several high value test features in this version. Our clinical research module has expanded testing capabilities including the ability to capture custom data and images using the processing tool suite as well as special custom tests for UV and fluorescence analysis and hydration retention.
6) How does your skin analysis product differ from competitors?
There are a few different clinical skin analysis systems on the market. These range from medical facial imaging products like the Visia system from Canfield Imaging to retail counter beauty appliances and gadgets such as those offered by Vicky Skin Tools to small handheld dermatology scopes like the ProScope. The CareType system is the only system that actually samples the skin by removing a small surface layer of skin cells. By doing this the test results are more accurate and not influenced by movement, natural facial contours, or other uncontrollable environmental or lighting effects. Additionally, our system relies upon skin testers that have been used in the clinical research industry for several years. For scientific references visit the article archives.
7) What can this system do that skin analysis surveys can't?
Skin analysis surveys are indeed convenient and can provide a base level of information about one's skin. Sites promoting skin analysis surveys like Neutrogena's skinid.com, olayforyou.com, skinstore.com, dermadoctor.com are primarily aimed at suggesting or recommending one particular brand and are often inherently biased. Our system not only samples the actual skin and uses proprietary proven skin analysis algorithms to provide accurate results, but it also is brand neutral and provides information that can be used to recommend any product or treatment that matches their skin type.
